At the Świętokrzyskie Oncology Center, the Clinical Research Room was officially inaugurated on April 16, 2026. It was established as part of the project “Strengthening the research and scientific potential of Center,” funded by the National Recovery Plan. The project included the development of research infrastructure, IT systems, staff training, and the implementation of advanced digital tools. As a result, patients of the Center will have improved access to innovative treatment methods.

The official opening was attended by: Renata Janik – Marshal of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, Marek Bogusławski – Deputy Marshal of the Voivodeship, Prof. Stanisław Góźdź, MD, PhD – Director of the Świętokrzyskie Oncology Center, Dr. Jolanta Smok-Kalwat, MD, PhD – Deputy Director for Clinical Affairs, and Marta Krzysiek, Head of the Oncological Clinical Research Support Center.

Professor Stanisław Góźdź said that thanks to this project, oncology patients from across the region gain access to the most advanced treatment methods offered through clinical trials.

In accordance with the project, the Clinical Research Room (Day Chemotherapy Unit in the Clinical Oncology Department) was equipped with 8 modern chemotherapy chairs. All stations are fitted with patient vital signs monitors integrated with the hospital information system.

“Our goal was to create a comfortable and safe place for the patient, who often spends the entire day with us,” said Marta Krzysiek, Head of OnkoCWBK ŚCO. “Since chemotherapy administration is a stressful moment, often involving long travel, we wanted the staff to come to the patient, not the other way around.”

At the Department of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation, a room was prepared for patients participating in early-phase (I and II) clinical trials, equipped with three stations for continuous monitoring of vital functions. In the Gynecology Clinic, an important investment was the purchase of a fully automated, electrically controlled gynecological chair for the medical office, with adjustable height, adapted to the needs of patients with mobility disabilities as well as overweight and obese patients. The cost of such a chair exceeded PLN 42,000. The gynecological office was further equipped with a state-of-the-art ultrasound device (over PLN 700,000) and an examination couch.

Among the purchases financed by the National Recovery Plan were also: ECG devices (3 units) and patient vital signs monitors (14 units). All devices were integrated with the Hospital Information System (HIS). This allows the physician-researcher to have continuous access to up-to-date data in the medical history of patients enrolled in clinical trials.

Additionally, as part of the funding, IT systems were modernized and new digital tools were prepared for implementation, significantly improving the management of clinical trials and increasing the efficiency of research projects. Researchers and clinics conducting clinical trials were equipped with an IT system enabling doctors to access up-to-date patient medical histories in real time. The center also purchased computer equipment enabling online visits for patients who have already completed their participation in clinical trials. A system for cost analysis of clinical trials and medical procedures was also acquired, facilitating planning and financial settlement of clinical research.

Currently, OnkoCWBK ŚCO coordinates 59 clinical trials across all phases (I–IV), covering a wide spectrum of solid and hematological cancers, using modern therapeutic approaches including targeted therapies, immunotherapies, and combination treatments, supporting around 60 investigators. More than 100 patients benefit from these modern therapies. The ongoing trials cover: breast cancer, hematological malignancies, prostate cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, melanoma, GIST and neuroendocrine tumors, head and neck cancers, gynecological cancers, urinary system cancers, gastrointestinal cancers, skin cancers.

The total value of the National Recovery Plan funding amounted to PLN 5,965,534.10. The investment was additionally supported by a targeted grant (PLN 168,167.73) from the budget of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship to co-finance the required own contribution.
